Tonsil-bloody-itis

Wednesday, 19 March 2008

I woke up this morning to Harley crying which was quite unusual as the last week or so he's just woken up and layed there talking for an hour or so until I get him up for a bottle. When I went in there and I could tell right away something wasn't right as he was red hot, his face was slightly swollen and he had a slight red rash all over his body. I took his temp and it was 38.4, quite high for him as he's never really had a temp above 37.6, so I gave him some Panadol and his bottle but he didn't want the bottle so I put him back to bed and he slept for 2 hours. When he woke up this time he seemed fine, the temp had dropped and he just layed there talking like he usually does but after breaky he started getting lethargic so I took his temp again and it was back up to 38.5. I rang my doctor and got him in right away although it's a 40 minute drive for me so by the time we got in to see the doc, his temp was 39.4!

It turns out my poor little guy has tonsilitis which is no surprise really as I got it all the time as a kid and still get at least 4 throat infections a year. The rash is a vasculetic rash which is his body trying to fight the infection. The doc gave me Amoxyl for the infection and said just keep up the Panadol for the fever. He thinks it could all be related to the bronciolitis infection he's had for a while. I'm really hoping the antibiotics clear it all up. If he's not better after 2-3 days, we've gotta go back to the docs.
