We had a bit of a scare on Friday. It hit not long after I got home from shopping about 2:30pm. I didn't think it was related to labour as the pain seemed to be too far up my back (about 10cm below my shoulder blades). The pain was rather subtle but got a lot worse and that's when it started getting hard to breathe as the it was radiating around to my front.
My neighbour phoned me not long after I got home (yes, we're lazy!) and she could tell I was having trouble breathing but I didn't think it warranted a trip to the hospital as it had happened twice this week already and I coped with the pain but today was much more intense. She made me call the hospital and they said they wanted me in now and to call an Ambulance to drive me. It takes an ambo 30 minutes to get here and then 30 minutes to get back to Mackay so my neighbour drove me in in about 25 minutes. The hospital was not happy as they had advised the Emergency dept that I was coming by ambo but I didn't. Once we explained how long it would have taken to get here via ambo, they seemed OK about it.
Anyway, when we got there I went straight to the Maternity Ward but they quickly shunted me off to Emergency where they were expecting me. I was never looked at by anyone at the Maternity Ward which was a little disappointing as I was more concerned about the baby than myself. The doctor I had at Emergency was really no help at all. They did an ECG, took blood & urine samples but everything was normal so I was released at about 6:30pm still not know WTF was wrong with me!
This pain has been happening every day between 2pm & 3pm since Tuesday last week with the intensity getting worse each day. I thought it was just heartburn but they said it wouldn't be that painful in my back if it was so I'm still none the wiser. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it happens again. If it does and it felt like it did on Friday, I'm going to demand they check the baby FIRST just in case (even if just for my peace of mind!!).
Mum is down from Townsville to spend a few days with me as she said she experienced the same thing - the pain in the upper back - before she went into labour. I still don't know if that's what it was but one can hope!
This is probably all wishful thinking but I've started to notice a few things are different. For example, the back pain, an "overactive bowel" (LOL), my cat going totally crazy over nothing (climbing the screens, running from one end of the house to the other) and the feeling that I'm carrying a 30kg bag of spuds in my lower stomach as he's dropped so much!
I'm getting quite excited now as the end is in sight. I finished packing his bag today. That felt weird! I wasn't sure if I was packing the right thing, like would he be warm enough in this or should I take an extra one of these? I'm sure it all comes with experience of which I have NONE at the moment! :S
I know no-one can predict when he'll arrive but a little hint wouldn't hurt? :)
